A simple and straightforward approach designed to introduce newcomers to the world of skincare. A beginner skincare routine typically includes three fundamental steps- cleansing, moisturizing, and protecting. These steps form the foundation for good skincare and can be easily incorporated into daily habits.

How to Build a Skincare Routine for Beginners?


Cleansing is the process of removing dirt, impurities, and excess oil from the skin’s surface. It helps keep pores clear and prevents breakouts. Beginners should opt for a gentle cleanser suitable for their skin type. Cleansing should be done twice a day, in the morning and evening. Avoid harsh cleansers that can strip your skin of its natural oils.


After cleansing, apply a moisturizer to keep your skin hydrated. Choose a moisturizer that suits your skin type—whether it’s dry, oily, or combination. Moisturizers help maintain the skin’s moisture balance and can prevent dryness or excessive oiliness. Also keep the skin soft, supple, and healthy-looking. Beginners should choose a moisturizer that suits their skin type—whether it’s a lightweight lotion, cream, or gel. Moisturizer should be applied after cleansing, both in the morning and evening. I always recommend using non-comedogenic, fragrance-free, alcohol-free, paragon & harsh chemical-free moisturizers. 


Protect your skin from the sun’s harmful rays by applying sunscreen with at least SPF 50. Sunscreen should be applied daily in the morning as the last step of your morning skincare routine every day, even on cloudy days, to shield your skin from UV damage and help prevent premature ageing, sunburns, and skin cancer. While choosing sunscreen know that your sunscreen must be broad-spectrum certified, mineral, water or sweat resistant. Reapply sunscreen every 2 hours. 


Exfoliating helps to slough off dead skin cells that accumulate on the surface of the skin over time. This process reveals fresher, healthier skin underneath, promoting a brighter and more radiant complexion. Exfoliation helps to smooth out the skin’s texture. It can reduce rough patches, bumps, and uneven skin tone, resulting in a smoother and more even complexion. Start with lower concentration (1%-2%) of chemical exfoliator (AHA-BHA, Lactic acid), once a week, in the evening. Follow guidelines written on the product on how to use it properly.

Extra Advice

Drink Water- Water is essential for maintaining proper hydration throughout the body, including the skin. When you drink an adequate amount of water, it helps to replenish moisture levels in the skin cells. Well-hydrated skin appears plump, smooth, and radiant. Also, flush out toxins from the body. When toxins are efficiently removed, they are less likely to build up and contribute to skin problems like acne or dullness. Drink 3 litres of water a day.

Sufficient Sleep- During sleep, the body undergoes a process of repair and rejuvenation. This applies to the skin as well. Skin cells regenerate and repair themselves more effectively during sleep, helping to restore their natural balance and vitality. This rejuvenation process can help improve the overall appearance and clarity of the skin.  Collagen is a protein that provides structure, elasticity, and firmness to the skin. Sleep is key for collagen production, as it is primarily produced during deep sleep stages. Sufficient collagen levels help maintain the skin’s elasticity and prevent the formation of wrinkles, fine lines, and sagging. Take 7-8 hours of good quality sleep in a day.

Healthy foods- Diet can have a significant impact on the clarity and overall health of your skin. The foods you consume provide the nutrients necessary for skin cell renewal, collagen production, and protection against damage caused by free radicals. Consuming a balanced diet that includes a variety of fruits, vegetables, nuts & seeds, bell peppers, whole grains, oats, lean proteins, and healthy fats can provide your skin with essential vitamins and minerals. These nutrients, such as vitamins A, C, E, and zinc, play vital roles in maintaining healthy skin and promoting cell regeneration. Some foods have anti-inflammatory properties that can help decrease skin redness, irritation, and inflammation. Examples include fruits and vegetables rich in antioxidants, such as berries, leafy greens, and tomatoes, as well as omega-3 fatty acids found in fatty fish like salmon and walnuts.
