1. Broad-spectrum certified sunscreen
Broad-spectrum is an antibiotic that works against two major types of bacteria, gram-positive and gram-negative. A broad-spectrum sunscreen protects skin from both UVA and UVB sun radiation. Normal sunscreen only protects the skin from UVB radiation. UVA radiation damages skin cells, and causes tan and premature skin ageing, on the other hand, UVB penetrates directly into skin cells and destroys DNA, which is responsible for melanoma or skin cancer.
2. Mineral sunscreen is better than chemical sunscreen
Mineral sunscreen reflects sun rays rather than being absorbed into the skin by chemicals like chemical sunscreen does. Also, mineral sunscreen is the safer option for individuals with sensitive skin, people who are tied up with long exposure, children, acne-prone skin and aquatic system friendly.
3. Use at least SPF 50 or higher
SPF 50 blocks 98% of sun radiation and provides protection for 3 to 4 hours.
4. No sunscreen is waterproof or sweatproof
Sunscreen that is waterproof or sweatproof does not exist.
5. Re-application is the most important
To get your sunscreen worked properly and effectively you must have to reapply sunscreen every 2 hours. Especially after swimming and sweating.
6. Sunscreen protects skin from premature ageing
Long-term sun exposure, especially UVA radiation accelerates premature skin ageing. Sunscreen not only protects from tanning, sunburn and melanoma but also protects from premature ageing.
7. Check the existence of zinc oxide and titanium dioxide
These are the two powerful major active ingredients that create a shield on the face to reflect both UVA and UVB radiation.
8. Wear sunscreen everyday
No matter where you are, inside at home on a cloudy day or even in the evening, apply sunscreen daily or as the last step of your morning skincare routine. Again! reapplication is a must.
9. Hypoallergenic for sensitive skin
Use hypoallergenic sunscreen if you are an individual with sensitive skin. This will be less likely to cause skin irritation.
10. All skin type and colour needs sunscreen
Sun radiation can damage all skin types and colours. Thus sunscreen is essential & recommended for all skin types and all skin colours of people.
